I paused at the entrance a bit unsure
A semblance of apprehension creeping in
After all its been a longtime....
I looked around the small garden
Ah! There she is tending her button roses
Her face pale, almost wearing a gaunt look
Hair pulled back in a severe plait
And the stiff cotton standing out
On her small frame.
I hear her little one crying
For her somewhere inside.
I took a tentative step forward"Meena", I called out
She looked up wid a start
And then the glimmer of recognition.....
A childlike smile reached her eyes,
Lighting up the horizon.
As we ran toward each other and embraced
I could not help thinking
How much things had changed and
Yet they remain the same....
